Your gift to the United Way of the Lower Mainland Endowment Fund is an investment in our community’s future.
A charitable donation to the United Way of the Lower Mainland Endowment Fund ensures that dollars raised by United Way go where they are needed most - to help those in need in Metro Vancouver. That’s because the principal from the Endowment Fund generates an annual income that we use to offset fundraising costs. Each year, hundreds of people contribute to the Fund. As of March 31, 2011 the fund was valued at $25.8 million.

The United Way of the Lower Mainland Endowment Fund was created almost 80 years ago after Miss Alice McKay made a $1,000 bequest to the Vancouver Welfare Federation, United Way’s predecessor. Mr. W.J. VanDusen and nine other prominent Vancouver citizens donated $10,000 each – and with the collective $101,000 the Endowment Fund was established.
To celebrate our 75th Anniversary in 2006, the following donors replicated the generosity of those pioneers by making commitments of $113,000 to the Fund - today’s equivalent of $10,000. Very special thanks to:
