Hockey night in Canada

Sun Microsystems of Canada Inc. contacted United Way of the Lower Mainland during the first week of the 2010 Winter Olympics, offering a suite at Canada Hockey Place for a group of seniors to enjoy a night of Olympic hockey.

United Way Planner for Seniors Beverly Pitman connected Sun Microsystems with The 411 Seniors Centre Society. Said Carrie Belanger, 411’s Manager of Client and Volunteer Services, “The group had a fabulous time and they were just so thrilled to be part of the Olympic events. Many of our seniors are very low-income and, therefore, don’t often have a chance to enjoy activities such as this one. Also, there were a few in our group who would not have been able to physically negotiate the stadium seating and so the suite was perfect for them.”

Thank you Sun Microsystems of Canada Inc.

It’s a priority for United Way of the Lower Mainland to help seniors stay active and live independently.
