Loaned Representative
An individual loaned by their employer to assist with United Way's workplace campaign.
Sponsored Representative
An individual hired by United Way and sponsored by an organization to assist with United Way's fall workplace campaign.
A Sponsored Representative helps volunteers in workplaces across the Lower Mainland with the planning and execution of their United Way fundraising campaigns. You will manage a portfolio of accounts and:
create and implement action plans for assigned accounts (organizations), in collaboration with company representatives
train, motivate and recognize workplace volunteers
monitor fundraising activities and report results for assigned accounts
communicate United Way message in writing and in-person to individuals and groups
attend and assist with special events and other activities (some may occur outside working hours)
seek new business development opportunities
Qualifications
Proactive, committed team player – able to build relationships and collaborate with others from diverse backgrounds toward common goals
Organizational and time management skills – ability to prioritize competing tasks and meet deadlines
Desire to learn and deliver public presentations about how United Way is helping to impact in our community (You’ll receive extensive training on this!)
Keen to learn and stretch yourself; gain valuable new skills through exciting and unique experiences
What to expect
Throughout the workterm, but particularly during the one-week orientation program (just like Boot Camp!), you’ll receive extensive training from United Way staff and special guest speakers on a host of topics. This training will serve you during your time at United Way and is an excellent professional development feature to add to your resume.
You will learn:
to deliver effective United Way presentations to small and large groups, and develop confidence with public speaking
effective time management and organization strategies
event planning/project management
new technology and tools such as Excel, PowerPoint, and in-house programs
to work and communicate effectively within a team
the art of negotiation
the inner-workings of a large non-profit organization
about social challenges facing vulnerable children and seniors within the Lower Mainland, and the organizations that are working towards preventing future social issues
Training provided at United Way is valued at approximately $15,000.
Other Requirements
Valid driver’s license
Exclusive use of a vehicle for daily use
Ability to lift and carry up to 20 kg
Availability from August 29 to December 16, 2011 inclusive
There is a one-week compulsory orientation program, August 29 to September 2, which provides necessary training and coaching to help you run an effective fundraising campaign.
Travel and parking expenses are also covered. Does not include travel between home and United Way office in Burnaby.
