This past year, over 500 organizations and unions came together to support United Way and spark positive change in communities across the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley, impacting over 400,000 lives in the region! This amazing work wouldn’t happen without a high degree of local commitment and love for community, and for that we thank you.
We know that the right connection can change everything. And the Fraser Valley Community Spirit Awards is our opportunity to honour, recognize and celebrate the change-makers that make this possible – from Aldergrove to Boston Bar and everywhere in between.
Over 100 caring and dedicated workplaces supported the United Way campaign in the Fraser Valley in 2017. They ran campaigns, raised dollars and awareness, and made a real difference, right here at home. The remarkable volunteers who run these campaigns are the backbone of the community and their compassion and pride in the place they call home is powerful.
It is what we call local love.
“Whether it’s visiting a lonely senior, helping a child learn how to jump on a pogo stick, or volunteering to run a workplace campaign, it’s all about sharing big and small moments to create something stronger, fairer, better – a community where everyone has the opportunity to reach their full potential…” says Brenda Aynsley, Vice President of Resource Development at United Way of the Lower Mainland and emcee for the night.
And the Fraser Valley’s love for its community is epic!
Thanks to local efforts, over $780,000 will be reinvested into the community in 2018/2019!
This includes Fraser Valley Community Partner Grants, Fraser Valley Priority Grants, supporting young children and families, BC211 and Vibrant Abbotsford – whose mission is to champion and implement poverty reduction strategies in Abbotsford by encouraging and facilitating collaborative efforts to reduce poverty.
We couldn’t do any of this without your generous support!
So, thank you to our Campaign Cabinet, our Fraser Valley Spirit Awards winners and the many volunteers and donors who help make our work possible.
We’d also like to thank our Fraser Valley Community Spirit Awards sponsors – including Baker Newby LLP, BMO Financial Group, Kelson Group Property Management, TD Bank Group and the University of the Fraser Valley – for having made this fun night of celebration a resounding success.
